Ingredients

Syrup

4 cups of granulated sugar

2 cups of water

1 teaspoon of lemon juice

1 teaspoon of orange blossom water

Dough

1 pound of shredded phyllo dough (Kataifi)

1 of cup melted butter

Filling

2 pounds of sweet cheese or fresh mozzarella

-Garnish

3/4 cup of pistachios

Step-By-Step Preparation

In a saucepan, mix the water, sugar, and lemon juice together in a pot. Place over medium heat and bring to a boil, stirring occasionally until the sugar is completely dissoved. Remove from heat and add the orange blossom water.

-Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

-Thaw the kataifi dough. Then, transfer it to a mixing bowl, pull the strands apart, and cut them to small pieces using scissors.

-Add the melted butter to the shredded dough, and mix well using hands, until everything is distributed evenly.

-Spread some butter on a large round pan. -Spread half of the dough into a thin layer, then press it firmly into the buttered pan.

-Spread the grated cheese over the top of the first dough layer, leaving 1 inch of space around the edges.

-Spread the remaining dough on top of the cheese layer. Press it firmly, covering the edges completely.

-Bake in the hot oven for 20 minutes.

-Remove knafeh from oven and flip it carefully onto a round serving dish. Lift the pan carefully.

-Pour most of the cooled syrup over the hot knafeh in an even manner. Decorate the

knafeh with the pistachios. Serve the rest of the syrup aside.
